ADULT ADHD SERVICE

PATIENT INFORMATION

Our Adult ADHD Service provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We can also signpost you onto other mental health services if you need any extra support.

Our team is made up of staff from a range of backgrounds, including medical, nursing and occupational therapy.

Who is our service for?

Our service is for local adults with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). We also support young people with ADHD who are moving from the children and young people’s ADHD service to the Adult ADHD service.

What is the referral process?

We accept referrals for people who have already been diagnosed with ADHD, as well as people who think they may have ADHD but have not been formally diagnosed yet.

The referral must be made through the GP or existing provider. However, please be aware that a referral to the Adult ADHD Service does not guarantee an assessment. All referrals are triaged to ensure their appropriateness; if a referral is not accepted, the ADHD team will endeavor to contact the patient as quickly as possible so that suitable support can be arranged. Our estimated wait time for appropriate referrals from referral through to shared care, including diagnosis and treatment, is 15 months.

Our service does not provide autism assessments for patients without ADHD symptoms, patients wishing to explore an autism diagnosis must be referred to the Mersey Care Autism Service. We only provide screenings for those patients referred internally by our own clinicians who suspect a comorbidity.

We work closely with other local mental health services and depending on the needs of the individual, we can also signpost or refer patients to other services such as psychological therapies, substance misuse, housing and social services.
